HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGES
As we come to the end of our second term, I reflect on our children's successes since the Christmas break.
We have an active School Council which is making important decisions impacting the whole school positively. These have included ideas for playground equipment and evaluating playtimes overall.
Music continues to play an important role in school life. Our guitarists and drummers performed for their parents/carers and peers in a Music Works concert on 13th March. We were all so proud of them as we sang along to Bruno Mars and Oasis, to name but a few! Our choir continues to practice every week and perform in public for our local community. In April, they'll be singing at Surrey's Primary Music Festival at Dorking Halls. And we continue to visit Cranleigh Arts Centre on Tuesdays to listen to music performances of various genres including jazz guitar, harp, flute and string orchestras.
Our children have shown themselves to be talented artists during illustrator workshops (Michelle Russell), curious scientists sending a spaceship into orbit as part of Spaceship Earth Interactive, responsible citizens engaging with our local Police, competitive sports people taking part in school-to-school events, and so much more! We look forward to the many experiences planned for summer term all of which can be found on our calendar.
As we break up for Easter, my thoughts are drawn to the upcoming Holy Week. Today, we commemorate Maundy Thursday; the day when Christians remember the Last Supper, when Jesus celebrated the Passover meal with his disciples before being betrayed.
Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper, seen above, is considered by some to be the most important mural painting ever to have been created. Painted by the Italian High Renaissance artist and dated to c. 1495–1498, it is housed in the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy. Help your child to learn more about Leonardo da Vinci HERE.
My staff and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your ongoing support and to wish you and your loved ones a very happy Easter holidays.
We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 16th April - the children's first day back.
Mrs Kate Pelazza; Headteacher

Year 3 Easter Service
We were all so proud of our Year 3 children and staff on Tuesday for leading the Easter service at St. Nicolas Church. They retold the Easter story beautifully.
Our Reception and Key Stage 1 children surprised us all
by leading a rendition of Spring Chicken! Well done to them, too.
Thank you to all parents/carers who were able to attend.

Easter Pause Day
On Monday, the whole school took part in a 'Pause Day' to celebrate Easter.
'Pause Days' provide children with an opportunity to engage in some high-level thinking and reflection on an off-timetable Religious Education day.
Our children took part in discussions, created artwork and wrote poems and stories about Holy Week.
Year 5 also visited Cranleigh Baptist Church for their 'Easter Cracked' workshop. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the different activities on offer. These included sewing a cross, completing Easter story egg-shaped puzzles, engaging in discussions as to why people are baptised and finishing the session with an Easter egg hunt where they worked as a team to find keywords relating to a Bible passage about the importance of Easter.
Year 5 were able to demonstrate their knowledge and also ask insightful questions to learn more. They had a great time as did all our children on Pause Day.
Do ask your child all about their experiences!

Attendance Notification from Surrey County Council:
A reminder to parents/carers that you will be liable for a fixed penalty notice if you take your children out of school for 5 or more days, or 10 or more sessions, without the Headteacher's authorisation. (A session is either a morning or afternoon and these do not need to be consecutive).
Currently, the amount payable under a penalty notice is £60.00 per parent/carer per child if paid within 21 days. Thereafter, the amount increases to £120.00 if paid between 21 and 28 days. If the penalty notice remains unpaid after 28 days, the Local Authority will consider a prosecution in the Magistrates Court. Please note that penalty notices are issued per parent/carer per child, so a family of two parents and two children will receive 4 penalty notices.
Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.
Please click HERE for more information and do contact the school if you need any help in getting your child into school.
