THE INCLUSION TEAM'S WELCOME
The start to the summer term has been a busy one for the SEND and Well-being Team as we take advantage of a variety of training opportunities.
As part of the school's staff development day on 15th April, our Teaching Assistants received training on how best to support learning in English. Next week, the school will be building on this when STIPs (Specialist Teachers for Inclusive Practice) will be giving us some training on Colourful Semantics - a strategy that can help children with structuring sentences.
We have also been learning about how behaviours are a form of communication. Everybody communicates through behaviour. A baby may cry when they are hungry or wet, just like an adult may yawn when they are bored. Adults and children are communicating through their behaviour during every moment in every day, even if they are unaware.
Children who are demonstrating behaviours of concern are sending adults the message that something is not right. There could be many reasons for a single behaviour, such as being hungry, scared, hurt, tired, bored, sad or angry. Since children often use their behaviour to tell us what they need, adults can help the child by figuring out the meaning behind the child’s behaviour. Once adults understand what children are communicating through their behaviour, they can respond more appropriately and effectively.
If you have any questions regarding your child's behaviour, well-being and/or additional needs, please do not hesitate to speak to one - or both - of us.
Mrs J Mills (SENDCo) and Miss K Meade (Assistant SENDCo)

A huge well done to our wonderful Reception children who received the following feedback from the staff at Cranleigh Fire Station:
We just wanted to let you know that it was a pleasure having all the kids at the station on Friday. They were a really well behaved class, listened well and asked good questions...it was a pleasure to have you all visit.
Great job, Reception!!

Our Half-Termly Value: COMPASSION
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you, patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-7
What an incredible example of compassion from Evelyn in Year 3! We are all very much looking forward to Evelyn and her team starting the litter picking soon!

ONLINE SAFETY FOR CHILDREN WITH SEND
|
|
|
Visual resources and verbal support can be useful for learners with SEND, but some learners may respond better to multi-media content such as videos, interactive presentations, screensavers or spoken/sound recordings that they can associate with ‘good’ or ‘bad’ decisions.
‘Know your friends with Josh and Sue’ is an illustrated video from CEOP which uses clear facial expressions and visual clues to communicate basic online safety rules. Please do watch with your child if you feel it'd be useful, but we recommend you watching first before deciding if it would be suitable for your child.

Mental Health Support
It's ok not to be ok...
|
|
|
In a recent poll by Mind, they found that over half (51%) the UK population believes there is still a great deal/fair amount of shame associated with mental health conditions.
This needs to change.
One of the first things Mind recommends, is talking to family and/or friends. Please click HERE for some tips on how to take that first step.
