HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGES
This week, our Year 6 pupils have sat their SATs papers. We are so proud of their efforts. We arranged a very special circus treat for them today (and all children when they arrived this morning!). See below for all the details!
Our Year 5 pupils visited the University of Surrey this week to take part in their annual outreach project. They all enjoyed the experience thoroughly; from walking around the campus, to talking with lecturers and under-graduates, to wearing actual lab coats. I'm certain we have some future University of Surrey graduates in our midst!
We are in the process of planning transition events for all our children, including our 24/25 Reception cohort; so, please do keep up-to-date with the school calendar to ensure you make a note of all relevant calendar dates.
Thank you to all parents who continue to support us in ensuring our expectations are high and at least in line with other schools. This includes the clarification around what drinks can be brought to school. A reminder that children do not need squash and should only be bringing in water. This is the healthiest option and will hopefully set them up for good habits as they grow older. I have also clarified some expectations regarding jewellery further down. If you have any questions, please ask your child's class teacher.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
Mrs Kate Pelazza; Headteacher

Our Year 6 pupils have sat their SATs this week. They have all tried so incredibly hard; not just this week, but throughout their entire time at Cranleigh. To show our children how proud we are of them we arranged for Juggling John to entertain them this morning. Everyone had the BEST time!

A HUGE thank you to our PTA, The Friends, for all their hard work on Saturday making our grounds look spectacular.
They planted many pots and two wildflower beds.
A special thank you also to Bushy Business and Notcutts for donating their time, knowledge and materials/plants.

Thank you to The Friends for organising a fabulous pre-loved uniform and doughnut sale today.
Did you know?
National Doughnut Week runs from 18th to 26th May 2024. They are raising money for The Children's Trust. Perhaps you could arrange your own doughnut or bake sale to help this very worthwhile charity.

SCHOOL UNIFORM UPDATE
Thank you for the support you have shown in ensuring your children are dressed appropriately, and as per policy, for school.
We would like to remind all parents that the following items are NOT permitted:
- Bracelets
- Rings
- Necklaces (unless a religious artefact)
- Dangly earrings (only 1 set of studs allowed)
- Smartwatches
- Fake nails
We have seen an increase in jewellery which is not appropriate for school; for example, Disney-themed bracelets and fake nails. Not only can such items be distracting for children during learning time, but they can pose a health and safety risk, particularly at break/lunch times.
If a member of staff finds a child wearing jewellery which is not religious in nature, they will be asking the child to remove it and will keep it safe until home time when it will be handed to the parent/carer collecting.
We would like to thank you in advance for your support.

Pentecost
The Day of Pentecost marks fifty days since Easter Day and brings the Easter season to an end. It is a major feast of the Church’s year when Christians recall how God’s Holy Spirit was given to the disciples after Jesus’ ascension, empowering them to begin the work of making disciples of all nations.
With its focus on God’s Spirit being poured out on believers, Pentecost is one of the most popular days for baptisms and confirmations in the Church’s year. Find out more about getting baptised as an adult or young person HERE.

So please ensure your child attends school regularly and on time.
Our daily timetable can be found HERE.
The attendance page on our website can be found HERE. Here you will find Surrey's Code of Conduct relating to the issuing of fines, as well as the Department for Education's Attendance Guide for Parents.
Please remember, the issuing of a penalty notice for unauthorised leave of absence may be considered appropriate for unauthorised leave of absence in term time (5 days/10 sessions or more within a three-month period – this does not need to be consecutive) without the authorisation of the school, as well as unauthorised absences or late arrival after the close of registration, on 7 occasions in any six-week period (not including school closures).
Please contact attendance lead, and Headteacher, Mrs Pelazza on 01483 273286 if you need help with your child's attendance or punctuality.

Attendance Reward!
Don't forget, we have 2 £50 'Every Wish' gift vouchers to give away at the end of this half-term!
EVERY child who has an improved attendance - however small that improvement may be - for this half-term compared to last, and EVERY child who has an attendance of 96% or above for this half-term, will be entered into a prize draw to win one of the 2 vouchers.
The prize draw will be taking place on Friday 24th May and winners will be announced and contacted that day to collect the vouchers before half-term begins.
Now, let's try and get to school each day!

Applications to Request Leave during Term Time
A reminder that we have updated our procedures to request leave.
We are no longer accepting the paper application forms; instead, please click HERE to access the attendance section of our website. There, you will find the link to an online Google Form which will need to be completed should you wish to request leave during term time. This Form also outlines the Department for Education's regulations and the school's expectations.
If you would like any help with the new application for leave procedure, please make an appointment to see Attendance Lead, and Headteacher, Mrs Kate Pelazza, on 01483 273286, or pop into the school office to speak with Mrs Jenking, admin attendance lead.

Thank you to all Year 5 parents/carers who were able to join us on Wednesday to celebrate the children's success with the University of Surrey's 'How Clean is your Classroom?' project.
The University were so impressed with our children! They were beautifully behaved and asked so many interesting questions; for example, we all found out that the University's most expensive microscope is worth at least £1 million and occupies a whole room!
Thank you to all staff at the University for supporting us.
