A thank you to St. Nicolas, too!

We have been busy re-designing our Reception classroom! And we already have our budding artists' work up, too!
We hope you like it as much as our children do.
We must also say a big thank you and goodbye to Mrs Stanley, Reception teacher, who leaves us today. I'm sure you will join me in wishing her all the very best for her future.

We are so proud of the children in our choir!
On Tuesday, they performed at Knowle Park Nursing Home in Cranleigh for the residents who had a wonderful time.
Thank you for extending a very warm welcome, Knowle Park!

On Wednesday evening, our choir performed at Cranleigh's Baptist Church, an event sponsored by the Cranleigh Rotary.
They sang beautifully once more!
A special thank you to Mrs Trinder and Miss Killick for all their hard work (and to mum, Sarah, for both attending and taking one of the lovely photos below).

Thank you to the staff at CYE for travelling all the way from Chichester on Tuesday to deliver a nativity worship to the entire school.
The children thoroughly enjoyed it as they were invited to reflect on the Christmas Story.

Many countries celebrate Christmas, but in slightly different ways.
In recognition of the richly diverse community we have at Cranleigh C of E Primary, I thought it was important to share some traditions other than those found in the U.K.

Christmas in Ukraine is now officially celebrated on the 25th of December. This became law in July 2023. Previously, Christmas had traditionally been celebrated on the 7th of January.
In Ukrainian, Happy/Merry Christmas is 'Веселого Різдва' Veseloho Rizdva (Merry Christmas) or 'Христос Рождається' Khrystos Rozhdayetsia (Christ is Born).
The main Christmas meal, called 'Sviata Vecheria' (or Holy Supper) is eaten on Christmas Eve which is known as Sviatyi Vechir (Святий вечір) or Sviatvechir (Святвечір) "Holy Evening".

In Hong Kong, Chinese Christians celebrate Christmas with Church services in Chinese. At the Anglican Cathedral, some services are held in English. The services in Chinese and English are held at different times of the day.
In Hong Kong, people also send Christmas cards. Some people still like to make them using Chinese craft techniques.
There is a street in Hong Kong that, in the run up to Christmas, sells only Christmas trees!

In Ireland, many people will put up their decorations, including the Christmas tree on December 8th, which is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
In Irish (or Gaelic) Christmas is 'Nollaig', Santa Claus is known as 'San Nioclás' (Saint Nicholas) or 'Daidí na Nollag' (Father Christmas) and Happy/Merry Christmas is 'Nollaig Shona Dhuit'.
The day after Christmas Day is known as St. Stephen's Day (Boxing Day in the UK).
