At Cranleigh C of E Primary School we use the definition for SEN and for Disability from the SEND Code of Practice (2014). This states:
A child or young person has special educational needs if he or she has a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her. A learning difficulty or disability is a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age. Special educational provision means educational or training provision that is additional to, or different from, that made generally for others of the same age in a mainstream setting in England.
Disability – Many children and young people who have SEN may have a disability under the Equality Act 2010 – that is …” a physical or mental impairment which has a long-term and substantial adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day to day activities.”
Each child is unique
If your child has a special educational need or disability, the level of provision used to support them will vary. Cranleigh C of E Primary School utilises a continuum tier system that identifies the SEND support required, in order to help ensure your child’s needs are met. Pupils with SEND are quickly identified and their needs catered for on an individual basis.
Teaching throughout the school is differentiated to meet the needs of all and our high percentage of adult to child ratio means an abundance of high quality support is available. A range of high quality resources and staff training is in place to ensure an ongoing programme of effective intervention is being implemented and that good progress is being made.

SEND Advice Surrey - SEND Advice Surrey is Surrey’s Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities information, advice and support (SENDIAS) service. They provide information, advice and support to parents, carers and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) aged 0 to 25 years.
Surrey Mindworks ASD/ADHS out of hours helpline - Families have told us they would like to access an out of hours support at the time they are struggling with behaviour / difficulties which could be related to neurodevelopmental need, such as autism or ADHD An out-of-hours phone line now provides advice to parents and carers and runs from 5pm until 11pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Please call 0300 222 5755.
Family Voice Surrey - Provide independent guidance to parent carers of children and young people with additional needs aged 0-25 in Surrey, shining a light on the challenges that SEND families regularly face.
Surrey County Council Family Centres - Supportive community based centres to help children 0-25 and with referral support to other agencies if required.
Surrey Positive Parenting Service - Barnardo's
